Look what Jack is doing!

I pulled out Jack's activity table for some play time before bed. Look what he did all by himself:

That's right- he got up onto his knees! I'm such a proud mama right now! He's also getting very good at standing; he just needs some help getting up.

He doesn't stand for very long, but the fact that he can do it at all amazes me! It won't be long before he's pulling himself up all the way. *sigh*

Earlier today we met his Godmother, Linda, for some ice cream. Neither of us could believe that it had been 4 months since we'd last gotten together!

After ice cream, we walked over to Party City and I found Jack's Halloween costume!!! And guess what? It's none of the ones I had posted previously. I'm going to keep it a surprise until our party. I did find a cute monster costume that looked like it might not be big enough. Lo and behold, the 12-18 month size (the biggest it comes in) was a bit snug. I didn't want to chance it seeing as how we still have another month to go.

Notice how the left leg is open? It was a bit tight in the legs! Plus, since we're going to an indoor party, I think he'd get hot pretty fast. The costume I ended up getting (which I almost bought online last night) is much more comfortable and breathable. I'm glad I was able to try it on him and confirm that it is the one. I can't wait to dress him up!

I need to go start my car and let it run for a minute. Yep, this is what I have to do now. AAA has had to come out 4 times since July (twice just this week) to start my car. Something is going on with the battery, but it was just bought July 5. Apparently it's not holding the charge very well and if it sits too long, it won't start. I really need a better, more reliable, and just plain bigger vehicle. I'm hoping this one holds out until November! Cross your fingers!

Oh, and one more thing before I go. 9 times out of 10, Jack falls asleep nursing. I gently move him into his crib where he stays (and sleeps) for the rest of the night. On the nights he doesn't fall asleep nursing, I put him in his crib and let him fuss or babble until he realizes that he's tired and I'm not there. When he really starts crying, I go in and pat his back or rock him to sleep. He sleeps wonderfully at night and I am very thankful! Even if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he doesn't cry. Just talks a little bit to himself and then falls back asleep. But usually he sleeps from about 7:30 - 6:30 no problem. Anyway, I want Jack to learn to to fall asleep on his own, without being nursed or rocked. But I also don't want him to cry himself to sleep. I don't feel like I can really do any kind of sleep training with him because he only doesn't fall asleep nursing once or twice a week. I'm not going to confuse him and let him cry on those random 2 nights. And I'm also not going to wake him up before putting him down so that he can learn to fall asleep by himself. That's ridiculous! Eventually we're going to have to do something, but for now this is how it is and it works for us. Well he was awake tonight when I put him in his crib and he seemed pretty happy. I knew he was tired because he had been rubbing his eyes and I thought for sure he'd fall asleep nursing. I put him down and said "night night Jack, I love you" and walked out of the room. He made some noises and babbled for a minute while I did the dishes. I expected to hear more fussiness, but he was ok. Then I realized that it was pretty quiet. Within 10 minutes he had fallen asleep on his own without one tear!! He did this same thing for a nap a week or 2 ago. Amazing!! At least I have proof that he is capable of falling asleep without any help.

Happy weekend!

Hooray for pulling himself up!! That is awesome! They are learning new skills so fast now...can time stop for just a little bit??

I can't wait to see the Halloween costume. Jack's came in the mail on Friday & I put him in it immediately. Now I am even more excited for October!

On the sleeping: I am sooo jealous! I admit we have been very inconsistent in putting our Jack in the crib to sleep - and we are regretting it (somewhat) now. I like your idea to go in & pat his back & let him fuss a little bit. I have been trying that, but now that Jack can pull himself up and stand in the crib he just stands there & yells at us! We will keep working on it :)

Yay little Jack! He'll be standing up and cruising around in no time! And isn't that table AWESOME?

About the sleeping - you go, girl! Super jealous!!!! I know what you mean - A tends to fall asleep nursing, and when she doesn't, it's difficult but I don't want to be inconsistent with her by letting her cry then, and I can't stomach it anyhow :(

Can't wait to see his costume!

Yay for finding a costume. I am still on the hunt.... I am anxious to see which one you picked!!! :) Pics will be awesome to see!

It's great to hear how great of a sleeper Jack is. We are very fortunate as well, with B. He is a wonderful sleeper and usually we don't have much issue puting him down either. *knock on wood* that this continues!!!!

Good luck with the car... I used to love cars and now I've realized, in my old age, that they are nothing but money pits!!! Grr!
