Costumes & Changes

Every new mom is faced with the decision of what costume to buy their little one for their first Halloween. It's that time of year. I have it narrowed down (I think!) and thought I'd post my choices here. The first catergory is cute & cuddly:

I'm not quite sure what to call the second (and last) catergory:

I wish they showed the scarecrow and pirate costumes being worn like they do the others. With those 2, I was thinking it might be nice to do something less traditional. We're going to a party with a bunch of other babies, and I'm sure almost all of them will be dressed up as some cute animal. I think I like the pirate the best of those 2. As for the others, I'm completely torn. I don't think the monster costumer will look as cute on him as the others. I want to like it, but I just don't. I can't decide between the lion and the tiger although I'm leaning more towards tiger. But do I get that or the pirate? The pirate costume is only $15.99, so I could do both??? I definitely don't wantt o go overboard! And wouldn't it be cute if I dressed up like a pirate too? Or if he is the scarecrow, I could dress up as Dorothy! Are any parents out there also dressing up?

On another note, I've been considering dropping a pumping session when Jack turns 9 months old. But in doing so, I'd have to start supplementing. I really don't want to try and squeeze formula into my already tight budget if I don't have to. And if I continue to make enough milk for him, why should I stop? I love breastfeeding and plan to keep nursing Jack past his first birthday (assuming he wants to keep going) morning and night. I just hate pumping. Well, it's not so much the pumping, but the stopping whatever I'm in the middle of to go and pump for a half hour. I pump at home in the morning and at night and twice a day at work. Things are starting to pick up for me at work and I'm getting a bit behind on my paperwork. It will be nice to not have my work interrupted any more. Not to mention the fact that it's a pain to try and find an empty office to use and I've been walked in on 3 times by men!! This week I had to go in the bathroom twice. I feel that in 6 months, only having to use the bathroom twice and my car once is pretty amazing. But it's starting to get to me. I'm exhausted and I feel like I need to give my all while I'm at work and my all while I'm home with Jack. But right now I'm not doing either because I'm so tired all the time. My work is suffering and it's definitely not fair to Jack. Not that I neglect him or anything like that, I'm just not always as energetic as I would like to be and sometimes things get left undone (housework, etc.). Something has got to give and I need to make some changes. I just have to figure out what those changes are going to be.

I do think that A. Lee said it best- "who am I without the pump?" It will be so freeing not to pump anymore (whether that time is now or 3 months from now), but also a little strange. In a good way!

Happy weekend!

That will be a tough choice..all the costumes are so cute! Our Jack will be a pumpkin (Bill & I had our wedding reception at the pumkpin patch and hope to go for our 2 yr annniversary next month. With Jack in costume, of course!!)

I am really impressed you've been pumping all this time. I am still breastfeeding, but I haven't had to deal with the pump at all. So...good job!!

We normally dress up and do a theme. We are toying with the idea of doing toy story theme. hubby and I would be woody and Jesee and Cameron a green army man and Ethan buzz lightyear...or something like taht. But we were also looking at doing wizard of Oz...and Ethan being the same lion you have posted(we found that the other day looking for different idea for cameron) and Cameron wants to be Tin man and hubby the scarecrow...and I already have a Dorothy! It really is so hard to choose! I think the non traditional is a great idea for the party with all the babies! And YES...I love when parents dress up too! I love Halloween in general :)

You are awesome for pumping for so long! Seriously....I hate pumping...and I hardly ever do it! You mommas are super Women! :)

(p.s....the monster looks like it wouldnt fit very well, I found a cuter one @ babies r us...and hubby really wanted to get it...but I wasn't sold between that and the few other cute ones. Decisions decisions!)

Halloween costumes are tough. For sure!!!! I am set on B being a little monkey... but I still have yet to find one for a decent price.... !!!! And then Patrick & I plan on being "zookeepers". Hehe. I still need to figure that out as well!!!!!

Pumping is such a PIA!!!!!! Can you imagine doing it in your car every day!!!! Thank goodness I found a good spot after a few months. LOL but it is sooooo nice not having to do it during work anymore. I now actually am only doing it once a day and it's definitely a more freeing feeling. :) Good luck with whatever you choose best for you & Jack!!!!

I vote monster or pirate - those are ADORABLE!!!!

As far as pumping goes, it is a PIA, and I only do it once or twice per day! Major props to you for sticking with it for NINE months! Whatever you decide, you rock!

I remember you saying before how much you like "monster" PJs and outfits on Jack, so it seems like the monster costume would be perfect! I think it's really adorable!

I've been thinking about weaning a little too. We are doing a dairy challenge soon and if Asher does well, then I might scale back the BFing a little. I'm so tired of pumping! You're doing a great job - I can't imagine pumping in the work bathroom! - so if you want to wean from the daytime feedings don't feel bad at all.
