It has been a crazy couple of days at our house. On Saturday we realized the air conditioning wasn't working. Jack and I spent most of the day out and it wasn't too bad.
Then came Sunday. It was brutal. I had some things I had hoped to get done while Jack napped. I quickly decided there was no way we could spend all day in this hot house, so I took Jack to walk around the cool mall. When we got home I put 2 table fans pointing at his crib in addition to the ceiling fan. Somehow we made it through the night.
I was actually glad to send Jack to daycare on Monday where he could be nice and cool. I got to work and guess what? The air conditioning was broken there too. At least I knew Jack was alright.
I went to bed around 10 not feeling very well. Sometime between 10:30 and 11, I got very sick. I slept for 2 hours, then woke up and got sick again. I eventually started dry heaving. I assumed it was due to the heat and I didn't want to get dehydrated and end up in the hospital. And I thought that if I wasn't doing too good, how was Jack coping? Without much thought, I scooped him up and headed to a hotel.
We had a king suite and it's unfortunate we couldn't enjoy it more. I had to line one side of the bed with pillows so Jack wouldn't roll off the bed. It was such a comfortable bed, but neither of us slept very well. I took him to daycare on Tuesday and I went to work. I felt so sick that I could barely work. I decided it wasn't doing me any good to stay so I took a sick day. The only problem is that I couldn't go home because the air still wasn't fixed. So I went to the movies for the first time since Jack was born. My friend had the day off and she met me at the theatre to see Eclipse. It took everything I had not to fall asleep during the movie! The air did get fixed that afternoon and I was looking forward to getting back to normal.
I picked Jack up, and as we were standing in the foyer saying goodbye, he threw up. I was surprised and just wanted to make sure he was okay. Then he threw up more. It just kept coming. It was very sad and I was just glad that I was there. I took him home and called the doctor. She said to monitor him and if he kept throwing up or having diarrhea, to call back. He didn't have a fever and thankfully, he hasn't thrown up again. I gave him a bath and put him to bed at 6:30. I fell asleep at 8 and got up a few times to check on him (he woke up twice), but we both got a much needed great night of sleep. He didn't even stir when my alarm went off. I stayed home with him today so that I could monitor and comfort him. He has mostly been his normal happy self with a little crabbiness thrown in.
My stomach still hurts, but we've both kept our food down and are doing much better. Jack and I spent some quality time playing with some new toys.
I'm not looking forward to all the work that has piled up for me at the office, but I'm glad I could stay home with Jack today. I feel bad that I probably made him sick. I'm guessing I ate something bad and the heat just exacerbated it and then I passed it on to Jack. At least we're both on the mend!
