My poor little guy has had a runny nose all day and didn't sleep well last night. I hope he sleeps better tonight, but I have a feeling we're going to get a repeat performance. He's not fully waking up, but every so often he stirs and sucks in the snot, which then makes him cough a little. He hates it when I wipe his nose or try to clean it out, but I'd like him to be able to breathe! All weekend he's been pretty laid back and quiet. He hasn't been too upset except for when I try to clean his nose! He doesn't have a fever and he's okay otherwise. I just feel so bad for him and wish there was something more I could do.
Other than Jack not feeling himself, we had a good day. We met Linda, one of my best friend's from high school, for lunch. She visited us in the hospital on Christmas Eve, but we hadn't seen her since. It was so nice to catch up. I also wanted to ask her to be Jack's Godmother. She happily accepted! I've been friends with her for 16 years and couldn't imagine anyone else fulfilling this role. I'm not particularly religious, but I do want Jack to be exposed to religion. I believe it's a very personal decision and not one that should be chosen for you. But he can't make a choice regarding religion if he's never exposed to it. I will educate and guide him as best I can with Linda's help. I found a quote online that is perfect: “Godparents are adults who are dedicated to the spiritual and moral development of a child.”
Jack is very lucky to have Linda for a Godmother!
Unfortunately, he wasn't his usual happy, babbling self, but we still enjoyed our visit. She got Jack 2 really cute pairs of pajamas for the fall/winter and treated us to ice cream. Thanks so much Linda. We love you!!
We ended our day with a bath and we tried out Jack's bath letters. Aren't they cool? There's one of each letter and number (the rest are in his fun corner bath caddy) and they stick to the tub with just a little bit of water. I think they'll help teach him to recognize and spell his name. Of course he has no idea what they are or what to do with them yet, but I think they're super cool!
I bought a bag of organic short grain brown rice today in preparation for Jack's first food. I'm still waiting until he turns 5 months, but anytime after that we can start with rice cereal. He's been waking up more the last couple nights, but I assume that's because he's teething and has a runny nose and not because he needs something other than milk. Maybe I'm wrong? I have no clue, but I'm waiting at least another 2 weeks! For anyone who is interested, there is a lot of great information and wonderful recipes (including the one I'm using for Jack's first cereal) at the following website: Wholesome Baby Food
Here are a couple other cute pics from this weekend:
Jack says, "My mom is cooler than yours." :)

Happy Mothers Day! Thanks for the baby food website -- I'm going to make Asher's food too (or at least try!). I am planning to wait until he is 5 months old as well, but then realized it's this week! I'd better start thinking about food, I guess...
:o)
Oh, by the way, we're all settled into our new home, so once Jack gets feeling better let me know and we can plan a get together for the boys!
Happy Mother's Day, Rene!
I'm sorry that Jack isn't feeling the best but hopefully it will pass pretty quickly like Bennett's little cold did. A couple days and he was pretty much better... except for a few coughs here and there.
Get Better soon Jack!!!
Hi! I just finished catching up. Jack is just so dang cute! I absolutely LOVE his "my mom is cooler than yours" shirt! I am glad to hear you had a great furst Mothers day! Kudos on starting running again! I need to get off my booty too! I think I told you before...but I love that yellow BOB! On the running one night a week...I would just make sure you change his diaper right before...and put him in the clothes he will wear to bed and pop him in the stroller! I think one night a week of changin' up his schedule will be ok. Plus it gives you adult time! How is your wrist by the way?
