All aboard the solids train!

I have made the decision to start Jack on solids next weekend, when he turns 5 months old. All week long he has been waking up more at night and for longer stretches. I assumed it was because of his stuffy nose (which is almost gone by the way). Sunday and Monday nights were bad, but he did great on Tuesday. He was back to his old schedule, only waking up once at 4am. Then on Wednesday, he seemed to want to eat more at daycare and he ate the extra 2 ounces of frozen milk I had previously given them. He also went back to waking up more at night. Yesterday I increased his bottles from 4 3/4 ounces to 5 ounces and sent another 2 ounces of frozen milk just in case. He did fine with his bottles, but wanted to eat sooner than usual. Today he ate the three 5-ounce bottles AND the extra frozen milk I had sent in!!! Woah! It's possible he's going through a growth spurt, but my guess is that he's just getting bigger and needing more.

I'm not sure that I can keep up with his demands, but I'm certainly going to do my best. I'm going to try sending him with 5 1/2-ounce bottles and see how that works out. I'm probably going to have to start pumping once before I go to bed, which I am not looking forward to but am more than willing to do. It's becoming more and more obvious that he needs more. Now I just need a high chair!

I bought a food processor last summer from Pottery Barn Kids online. It was on sale and I knew I wanted to make Jack's baby food, so I went ahead and got it. I took it out tonight to see how it works, and there isn't an instruction booklet!! There are no buttons, speeds, knobs, nothing. I have absolutely no idea how to work this thing. It's possible I opened it when I got it, took out the instructions to look at later, and now have no idea where they are. I don't know, but luckily my dad has a good looking food processor that I can use. I bought a butternut squash to test out; I hope it turns out better than the sweet potato did! Luckily I still have another month to perfect my veggie making skills. I'm actually excited though and I can't wait to make cereal for Jack next weekend! I'll let you know how it goes.

A couple pics from earlier today:

Jack likes to show off how big of a boy he is by propelling himself forward and proving he can sit up without help.

Just don't grow up too fast, big guy!

ADORABLE pics!!!
Yay for trying solids... I originally said 6 months but then started a little earlier than 5 months even. Bennett doesn't care for the cereal and we added some pear... not a huge fan of that either. We'll be trying something new this week. Let me know how the food making goes... I plan on doing that further down the line here!!!

I'm excited to start making baby food for Asher as well. Although maybe the reason he doesn't seem to need any yet is because I'm stuffing him full of milk! I didn't realize how much he was getting until I read your post. Asher nurses at 4am, then gets 6oz bottles at 7am, 11am, 3pm, and a 7oz bottle at 7pm. I've been mixing the BM and formula 50:50 in each bottle (mostly to dilute the nasty formula taste for him).

It's really too bad that BM is such a "personal" substance or I would totally send some over to you...I have lots since we're not using as much these days!

I'm excited to hear how Jack does with food. What are you starting with? Oh, and June sounds great for getting together. We're free on Sundays as well!

Jack is such a cutie! His little face makes me smile...love those cheeks!

Thanks for the link to the baby food site. My Jack hates the boxed rice cereal - even mixed with breastmilk. I think I am going to try making homemade cereal and see if that works out better...
