4 Weeks

Jack is 4 weeks old today! He's been smiling a lot more than I expected he would and it's not just gas. It's so cute! I think he's also finding his voice. He's started crying more. He used to just start eating his hands when he got hungry and I'd notice and feed him before he got to the point of crying. But now he starts fussing pretty quickly and will break out into a cry if I don't feed him right away. When he does fuss or cry there is always a reason and he stops as soon as I fix whatever is bothering him.

He has also started to go a little longer between daytime feedings. Yesterday he went almost 4 hours but we were out and he sleeps very well in his car seat. As soon as we got home he was ready to eat. His sleep habits during the day are changing as well. He sleeps very well if I am holding him and like I said, if he's in his car seat. He likes the movement in the car or in his stroller. If I'm holding him and put him down, he'll stay asleep but not for very long. I used to be able to get a good 2 hours of him sleeping in his pack n' play and I'd use that time to get things done. Now I'm lucky to get an hour. Part of it could be that I've been taking him out more since the weather has been beautiful. Maybe it means he's getting his days and nights straightened out and he'll start sleeping better and longer at night. I sure hope so!

I havent't pumped any milk all week. I just haven't had a chance. I really want to start building my supply and want to give Jack a bottle at least twice a week. It's just hard because I have to do it after he's been fed and taking a nap. It's also best to do it in the morning but that's our busy time. I hope I'll be able to get some sort of a routine down because I really need to pump semi-regularly.

He has his one month check-up next week. I'm really curious to see how much he weighs and how long he's gotten. He's definitely heavier but he's not chunky.
