1 cup cooked kidney beans
1/2 cup ground turkey or beef - cooked

pinch of pepper, garlic powder, turmeric
Saute the onion and celery in the olive oil until tender.
In a large pot, mix the onions and celery, broth and cooked kidney beans.
In a large pot, mix the onions and celery, broth and cooked kidney beans.
Bring to a boil, add the meat and then reduce heat to low.
Simmer 1 hour.
Serve as is or mash/puree if your baby is not accustomed to chunks and texture. Use a potato masher for babies who enjoy texture.
I ended up using one cup broth and one cup water because the broth I had wasn't no salt. As for spices, I only used garlic powder. Also, I used no salt added canned kidney beans. It was tasty! I thought Jack could handle the texture so I only mashed it. The problem is he puts a lot in his mouth but doesn't swallow it. He's like a squirrel, saving some for later! I gave him some of the beans and meat on his tray so he could feed himself. This made him very happy! He definitely prefers to feed himself now. I pureed the remaining chili and thats how he'll get it the rest of this week.
Here's a picture of the chili before I pureed it:
I cut the beans in half and I think the celery could have been cut even smaller. It did get pretty tender while cooking though. The puree is better for him right now. Still chunky but much more manageable, and hopefully he won't store any in his cheeks! :) Overall, I am very happy with how it came out and I'm excited for him to have something more than just a simple fruit or veggie puree. And he loved it!
Have a great week!!

Yum! I think Im gonna have to try that one!
I can't wait to try this! Thanks for posting. Presley also prefers to feed herself. Look at our independent kiddos!
You read my mind! I was wondering what Baby Chili would be like. :) I need to check out that site in more depth because B is starting to dislike getting spoon fed purees more and more! He seriously dislikes peas & green beans .. still disliked green beans in the solid form but didn't mind the peas! :) I'll get that kid to eat greens sooner or later.
Oh my goodness, chili sounds so "big kid" Ah! I'm so impressed!! Bryson isn't quite into table food yet. He does the squirrel thing, too. He puts it in his mouth and doesn't understand he needs to swallow! haha.
aleelavine, Bryson is the same way with greens. He has always hated anything green: avacados, green breans, peas. Too funny!
