Conversations with a 2 year old

Jack talks so much and so well, that it's easy to forget he's only 2. Talking with him and having regular conversations has become second nature, and sometimes I have to stop and remind myself that it's truly amazing. Just a year ago I was ecstatic that he was saying "Bah" for ball. Now he talks about astronauts.

Here is a conversation we had this morning, word for word:

Mommy- Let's go brush our teeth.
Jack- Okay, let's go brush our teeth.
I stopped to grab him a pair of socks so I wouldn't forget later
Jack (already in the bathroom)- You coming?
M- Yeah, I'm coming!
Jack closes the door behind me, steps on the stool and says, "Jack's ready to brush teeth and mommy's ready to brush teeth too!"

This is exactly how it went. Might not sound too exciting, but that last sentence is 12 words! He pronounces every letter of each word and speaks pretty clearly too. Occasionally, I do have to translate something he says for his dad or grandpa, but that's to be expected.

This is just a small taste to what our typical day sounds like. He can hear things that I don't even pay attention too and he'll say, " I hear bird, mommy. You hear it?" He addresses people by name, which I love especially when it's directed at me!

I asked him some questions one night so I could write down his answers (thank you, Pinterest!). I asked him what his favorite food is and I told him that I like pasta and ice cream. He went on to tell me that he likes ice cream and grandpa likes ice cream and everybody likes ice cream. Now, 2 or 3 weeks after I first asked him, he constantly asks, "What's favorite food, mommy? You like pasta? I like ice cream!" And he goes on to talk about all the things he likes to eat such as macaroni and spaghetti & meatballs, etc. It's super cute!

I just found a conversation I had written down in my phone from Feb. 23. I'm so glad I have an iPhone so I can capture these moments when there's no pen and paper handy! I was putting Jack to bed and he heard a noise outside.
Jack- What that noise, mommy?
Mommy- I don't know. Maybe it's a car.
J- Maybe it's people
M- Maybe it's people?
J- Yeah, big people.

So cute! There's nothing I love more than having a conversation with my 2 year old! I can only imagine what he'll come up with as the months and years go on, but it'll be nice to look back and remember some of our first conversations. :)

That is so amazing! I can't wait to have full conversations with Asher like that. We're still pretty excited about "bah" over here. :-)

Go Jack! {and yay for liking to brush his teeth!}

My daughter is exactly the same way and I definitely need to start writing down some of these conversations we have. I just keep getting distracted. **sigh** Jack is getting so big!

Presley talks in huge sentences too! I need to remember to write our conversations down. This will be so fun for you to look back on. I agree with you, I forget all the time that I'm talking to a 2 year old. Crazy!
